Relief irregularities: 7 UP level public representatives suspended in Faridpur

Seven public representatives of Gopalpur Union Parishad under Faridpur's Alfadanga upazila were suspended today due to their alleged involvement in misappropriating relief items and rice.

The suspended persons are Inamul Hasan, chairman of Gopalpur Union Parishad, and six other members of the same UP: Obaidur Rahman, of ward no 1, Bakiar Rahman, ward no 2, Ibrahim sheikh, ward no 4, Rezaul Karim, ward no 5, Oliar Rahman, ward no 9 and Shopna Begum of reserved seat for ward no 4, 5 and 6.

Allegations against the seven have been proven, the Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives (LGRD) ministry said in a notification.

The ministry has also asked the suspended public representatives to explain within 10 days through respective deputy commissioners why they should not be removed permanently from their posts.

With these seven, 66 public representatives across the country have so far been suspended for misappropriating relief materials following the outbreak of Covid-19, said Mahmudul Hasan, public relations officer of LGRD ministry.

Of them, 21 are union parishad chairmen, 42 UP members, one zila parishad member and two municipality councillors.
