Rapist gets life

A court here yesterday sentenced a young man to life imprisonment for violating a girl at Fulbari village in Sonatola upazila of the district in 2006.

The convict is Monglu Sheikh, 30, son of Jellar Rahman Sheikh of the village.

Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-1 Judge Abdul Mannan also fined the convict Tk 50,000. In default, he is to suffer six months more in jail.

According to the prosecution, on September 24, 2008, Monglu raped the girl after promising to marry her.

As Monglu backed out of the promise, the girl filed a rape case with Sonatola Police Station against Monglu him.
