Rangpur ‘robber’ killed in ‘gunfight’

An alleged robber was killed in a "gunfight" with police in Pirganj upazila of Rangpur early today.

The deceased was identified as Humayun Kabir, 27, son of Abdus Sattar from Barisal Sadar, our Dinajpur correspondent reports quoting police.

Last evening, police arrested five robbers from Pirganj upazila, said Rezaul Karim, officer-in-charge of Pirganj Police Station. "Police accompanied Humayun in a drive to recover stashed weapons."

"The robber dashed at police. Police in retaliation fired on Humayun leaving him dead on the spot. Two policemen – a Sub-Inspector Nazim Uddin and two constables Mizu Mia and Abdul Motin were injured during the incident," he said.

The body has been kept at Rangpur Medical College for autopsy.
