The Chief Executive Officer of Rajshahi Zilla Parishad Md Nuruzzaman has been released from Chapainawabganj jail today eleven days after he was detained because he was carrying banned phensidyl in a government vehicle.

Nazmul Azam, the Public Prosecutor of Chapainawabganj District and Sessions Judge's Court said Nuruzzaman was the second accused in the case filed with Chapainawabganj Sadar Police Station.

Nuruzzaman's lawyers told the court he did not know anything about the seized phensidyl. On his way back to Shibganj upazila, he picked up one Ohiduzzaman Lazuk and it was Lazuk who was carrying the phensidyl.  The officials of Narcotics Control Department arrested both him and Lazuk along with the banned drug.

"On behalf of the state, we opposed the bail prayer.  But he is a high-ranking official and the second accused in the case, so the court has granted him bail," said Nazmul Azam. Ohiduzzaman Lazuk did not get bail, he added.

Chapainawabganj Modern Sadar Hospital Residential Medical Officer Nadim Sarkar said Nuruzzaman was admitted to the hospital from Chapainawabganj district jail on Wednesday with chest pain.

He was shifted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital on the same day, he said.

On the night of December 18, the officials of the Narcotics Control Department waylaid Nuruzzaman. They arrested him and Lazuk along with 6.8 liters of Phensidyl from the vehicle.
