Primary teacher recruitment: Results of qualified 669 candidates stayed

Star Online Report

High Court (HC) today stayed results of 669 candidates qualified in government primary school teacher recruitment tests from Nilphamari and Barguna for six months on charge of violation of the relevant rules.

The court also issued a rule asking the authorities concerned of the government to explain in four weeks why the results of the recruitment tests of the two districts should not be declared illegal.

The bench of Justice Sheikh Hassan Arif and Justice Md Mahmud Hassan Talukder came up with the order and rule following a writ petition filed challenging the results of government primary school teacher recruitment tests in Nilphamari and Barguna.

Following the HC order, the process for recruiting 266 candidates from Nilphamari and 403 candidates from Barguna who qualified in the primary school teacher recruitment examinations will remain halted for six months, Advocate Rezaul Karim, a lawyer for the writ petitioners, told The Daily Star.

He said as per section-7 of the government primary school teacher recruitment rules 2013, 60 percent of the government primary school teachers will be appointed from female candidates, 20 percent will be appointed from Posshya (dependents) and rest 20 percent will be recruited from male candidates.

But the condition of the rules has been violated in publishing the results of 669 candidates from the two districts as woman candidates were accepted much less than the fixed quota, he said.

Advocate Rezaul said 21 female candidates who qualified in both preliminary and written tests but their results were not published in the result sheet collectively filed the petition with the HC on January 14 seeking necessary order and rule.
