Police rescue 3 children who ‘fled home to earn’ from Lalmonirhat

Star Online Report

Police today have rescued three school-going children -- who ran away from their homes -- from Lalmonirhat last night.

The students of classes four, five and six left home -- in Dimla upazila of Nilphamari district -- "to earn money", police said quoting the children.

The primary earning sources of their families are their fathers who work as day labourers. Due to prolonged closure of their schools and poverty during the pandemic, the three children decided to leave home "to earn money", police said.

They were handed over to their guardians this morning, reports our Lalmonirhat correspondent quoting Shah Alam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Lalmonirhat Sadar Police Station.

The rescued children told police that they came to Lalmonirhat's Bawra area after walking a few kilometres. They boarded a bus from there and came to Lalmonirhat town.

They were waiting at the bus stand to board a Dhaka-bound bus when police rescued them, the OC added.
