Owner fined Tk 1 lakh for illegally dismantling vessel at Patenga beach

Chattogram Port Authority (CPA) fined a vessel owner Tk one lakh for illegally dismantling a vessel on Patenga beach.

The lighter vessel was kept at the beach for the last few months due to a mechanical glitch, said Executive Magistrate Goutom Baroi of CPA.

The owner decided to dismantle the vessel on the beach which is a clear violation of law as government has a dedicated zone for ship-breaking in Sitakunda upazila, he added.

"We stopped the dismantling and fined the owner Md Younus Tk one lakh", he concluded.
