Owner fined for operating mental hospital without licence in Cumilla

A mobile court today fined the owner of a mental hospital for operating it without any licence in Sadar upazila of Cumilla.

Acting on a tip off, the mobile court team raided the hospital named 'Manusik o Madaksakti Chikitsalaya' located at Moddhopara of Durgapur union this afternoon, said Dr Soumen Roy, medical officer of Cumilla District Civil Surgeon office.

Later, Executive Magistrate Mazharul Islam fined Tk 20,000 to Hakim Mawlana Farid Ahmed, 60, owner of the house and hospital, for illegally operating the hospital and keeping mental patients in facilities below the standard.

The mobile court also asked the owner to handed over the patients to their families within seven days, our Cumilla correspondent reports, quoting Dr Soumen Roy.
