Over 400 trucks stranded at Paturia Ghat
The number of vehicles at Paturia Ghat has increased as ferry services on the Shimulia-Kanthalbari waterway has been suspended due poor navigability.
A total of 450 goods-laden trucks are stranded at the ghat as passenger and emergency freight vehicles were allowed to pass on a priority basis, our Manikganj correspondent reports.
Around 10:30am today, 250 trucks were seen stranded at the terminal while another 200 were on the highway near the terminal.
Abdus Sattar, assistant general manager (Aricha zone) of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) said that though there is a large number of goods-laden trucks, there are not many passenger vehicles.
There are navigability issues on the Paturuia-Daulatdia waterway and the ferries have been taking an alternate way since August 30.
He expressed hope that the ferries could move on the main channel in the river in the next day or two, he said.
