Outlaws demand Tk 10 lakh from Chuadanga DC
An extortionist from the outlawed Sarbahara Party yesterday allegedly demanded Tk 10 lakh from the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Chuadanga and threatened to abduct and kill his children if not paid, the police said today.
The caller, who introduced himself as Major (Ret) Zia, a leader of the banned outfit, made the demand and threatened to kill the DC's children after abduction if the money was not paid, reports our Kushtia correspondent.
A general diary (GD) was filed with Chuadanga Sadar Police Station in this regard, said Tozammel Haq, officer-in-charge (OC) of the police station.
According to the GD, DC Saima Yunus received the call over cell phone while returning to Chuadanga from Khulna after attending a meeting there around 2:49 pm yesterday.
The caller told the DC that his men (Sarbahara activists) who were undergoing treatment in India, needed Tk 50 lakh but they could only manage Tk 40 lakh so far.
"So you have to pay the rest 10 lakh," the caller demanded adding that, "We will abduct your kids and kill them if you don't pay."
Later, Sub-Inspector (SI) Shafiqul Islam of Chuadanga Sadar Police Station lodged the diary last night.
When contacted over phone, DC Saima Yunus admitted this, but declined to say more in this regard.Outlaws demand Tk 10 lakh from Chuadanga DC.
