A man was killed and nine others were injured in a clash between two groups in Kushtia Sadar upazila this morning.

The deceased was identified as Farid Hossain (45) of Bhabanipur village in the upazila, reports our Kushtia correspondent.

Kushtia Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Kamruzzaman Talukder said there was a longstanding conflict between two groups – one led by local Awami League leaders Liaquat Ali, Badshah Mia and Reza Mandol and the other led by Rashidul and Labu who are also involved with Awami League politics.

A week ago, there was a dispute between the two groups over an issue, the OC said.

Following the dispute, Rashidul-Labu supporters attacked and vandalised the houses of Badshah and Reza Mandol around 10:00am today that triggered the clash between the two groups.

At least 10 people from both sides were seriously injured in the clash. Farid, of Rashidul-Labu group, died on the way to Kushtia General Hospital at about 11:30am.

After receiving the information, police reached the spot and brought the situation under control, the OC said.
