One killed as BCL, Jubo League men clash in Feni

A Bangladesh Chhatra League activist was killed in a clash between the men of BCL and Jubo League in Sonagazi upazila in the district on Sunday.

A CNG auto-rickshaw and a motorcycle were burnt during the incident. The agitated activists of both groups also attacked and ransacked three shops.

Police arrested three Jubo League men in connection with the incident.

The deceased was Kamrul Hossain alias Rocky, 16, son of Abu Dhabi expatriate Nur Nabi of Sulakhali in the upazila. He was a Class X student of Kumira High School in Chittagong.

Police and witnesses said, Mainududin, Yasin and Saiful Islam of Sonapur village, who are known as Jubo League activist, waylaid one expatriate Dulal Hossain's motorbike in the area and snatched a gold bracelet, chain, cash and a mobile phone from him.

Dulal Hossain filed a case with Sonagazi Police Station in this connection.  Local elites through an arbitration collected the looted materials and returned those to Dulal. The arbitrators fixed the price of the bracelet at Tk 24,000 and asked the attackers to pay the amount to Dulal but they were dillydallying in paying the amount.

Around 8:00pm on Sunday, Dulal entered the BCL office at Sulakhali Bazar and tried to kidnap accused Mainuddin. At one stage, a group of 15 to 16 BCL activists led by Shahin and Rahmatullah  resisted Dulal and confined him to the office.

As the news of Dulal's confinement reached his village Sonapur, a number of people including supporters of Dulal, Chhatra League and Jubo League rushed to the spot and then a chase and counter chase ensued, triggering a clash.

Kamrul Hossain alias Rocky, Sheikh Ismail Hossain, Dulal Hossain, Nur Alam, Sabbir and Rahmatullah were injured. A number of bombs were also exploded during the clash. 

Seriously injured Rocky was first taken to Sonagazi Upazila Health Complex and later shifted to Feni Sadar Hospital. As his condition deteriorated, he was referred to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH).

Rocky later died in Baraiahat area on the way to CMCH, said Officer-in-Charge of Sonagazi Police Station Md Humayun Kabir.
