One killed, 15 hurt in clash over land dispute

A man was killed and 15 others were injured in a clash between two rival groups over land dispute at Sikandarpur village in Dirai upazila of Sunamganj district yesterday.

 The deceased was identified as Abdul Malik, 60, a resident of the village.

 Bayes Alam, officer-in-charge of Dirai Police Station, said there was a longstanding dispute between Juned Ahmed, 45, and Sumon Miah, 40, over the ownership of a piece of land at the village.

 As a sequel to the conflict, supporters of Juned Ahmed, 45, and Sumon Miah, 40, attacked each other at about 9:00am, leaving Abdul Malik dead on the spot and 15 others injured.

Five of the injured were admitted to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital while the rest 10 others took admission at Sunamganj Sadar Hospital and Dirai Upazila Health Complex.

 Police recovered the body and sent it to Sunamganj Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
