One gets life for murder

A Mymensingh court on Monday sentenced a man to life imprisonment for killing his brother in 2010.

The court also fined the convict Tk 10,000. In default, he is to suffer one year more in prison.

The convict is Paresh Chandra Basak of Hotiar village in Gouripur upazila of the district.

Four other accused in the case were acquitted as charges brought against them could not be proved, court sources said.

According to the prosecution, there had been a dispute between Paresh Chandra Basak and his brother Krishna Chandra Basak, 65, over a piece of land.

Paresh and his men locked in an altercation with Krishna on May 29, 2010. At one stage, they attacked Krishna with sharp weapons, injuring him critically.

He succumbed to his injuries at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.
