One gets life for murder

A court on Wednesday sentenced a man to life imprisonment for killing a local union parishad chairman in July 29, 2000. The convict is Ali Ahmed, son of Mosharraf Bishwas of Ganganandapur village in Jhikargachha upazila. Additional District and Sessions Judge Mohammad Shamsul Haque also fined the convict Tk 10,000. In default, he is to suffer six months more in jail. Besides, the court acquitted 18 other accused in the case as the charges brought against them could not be proved. According to the prosecution, Ganganandapur UP chairman Abdul Jalil went missing on July 29 in 2000. The following day, his body was found in farmland at Hrishipara village. Deceased's son Shahidur Rahman filed a murder case with Jhikargachha Police Station.
