Noakhali gang-rape: Accused Abul Kalam confesses before court; sent to jail

Abul Kalam, an accused in connection with the torture and gang-rape of a woman in Noakhali's Begumganj upazila, today gave his confessional statement before a Nohakhali court.

Kalam, (22), gave the statement under section of 164 before Noakhali Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court judge Mashfiqul Haque this evening, said Mamnur Rashid Patwari, sub-inspector of Noakhali's Police Bureau of Investigation.

The court later sent him to jail, said Mamnur Rashid Patwari, also investigation officer of the court.

Kalam, also second-in-command of Delwar, chief of "Delwar Bahini", was produced before the court this afternoon on completion of his six-day remand prayer, our Noakhali correspondent reports quoting the investigating officer.

During the remand, Kalam admitted to filming the incident on September 2, said SI Mamnur Rashid Patwari.

Kalam is the number three accused in two cases filed under the Women and Children Repression (Prevention) Act and under the Pornography Control Act over the incident and the number two accused in a rape case filed with Begumganj Model Police Station.

With him, eight people have given their confessional statement over the incident.
