Newlywed murdered for dowry

A newlywed housewife was killed allegedly by her husband for dowry at Sota Mulluk village in Manda upazila of Naogaon on Sunday.

The deceased was Golapi Rani Mondal, 19, daughter of Dinesh Chandra Mondal, of Dhowria village in Niamathpur upazila.

Golapi married Dulal Chandra Saha, 25, son of Nanigopal Saha of Sota Mulluk village, in March this year.

Family members said Dulal's parents demanded Tk 2 lakh, a motorcycle and gold ornaments before arranging the marriage. During the wedding, Golapi's parents gave them the amount and gold ornaments as dowry.

After their marriage, Dulal and his family members often tortured Golapi for the motorbike.

On Sunday afternoon, Dulal and his parents strangled Golapi following an altercation over the issue and fled the scene.
