Newly-married couple burned to death in Pirojpur fire

A newly-married couple was burned to death as fire broke out at a house in Pirojpur's Mathbaria upazila early today.

The deceased were identified as Saiful (25), an auto-rickshaw driver, and his wife Moni (20), residents of Mathbaria's Pashchim College Road area.

On information, a unit of fire fighters rushed to the area around 5:15am, Mathbaria Fire Station Officer Md Sumon told our local correspondent.

After two hours, fire fighters managed to control the blaze, the official said.

Four members of Saiful's family managed to escape the fire but he and his wife died on the spot, he added.

The fire might have originated from an electrical short circuit, he said.

Saiful and Moni got married three months ago.

The loss in the fire has been estimated at Tk 4 lakh.
