Neighbour torches late freedom fighter’s house in Bogura

A neighbour torched the houses of a late freedom fighter and his younger brother in Bogura's Sariakandi upazila last night.

The freedom fighter's certificate and gazetted copy of his documents were burned in the incident, our correspondent reports quoting family members.

Afsana Rahman, 55, wife of the late freedom fighter Fazlar Rahman, resident of Char Godagari village of the upazila, claimed that at around 1:00am, Md Abdul Mozid, 32, one of their neighbours, set fire to their three tin-shed houses.

Villagers then rescued them from the fire, she added.

Later, fire fighters along with villagers brought the fire under control at 2:00am, she said, adding that valuables worth Tk nine lakh were damaged in the fire.

She added that they had previous enmity with Mozid over a crop land.

Contacted, Md Al- Amin, officer-in-charge (OC) of Sariakandi Police Station, said they got a complaint in this regard.

He said police is trying to nab the accused.
