National emergency helpline: 2 teenage girls rescued from prostitution ring in Chattogram
Police rescued two teenage girls from a prostitution ring operating from a flat in Kalpolok Residential area under Bakalia police station in Chattogram and arrested two persons in this connection after receiving a call through 999, the national emergency helpline.
One of the teenagers called the emergency hotline for help, prompting law enforcers to investigate the matter, reports our Chattogram correspondent quoting Nezam Uddin, officer-in-charge (OC) of Bakalia police station.
The police also arrested two -- Md Delwar (25) and Shahin Akter (24) -- who had forced the two girls into prostitution after confining them to the flat, the OC said.
OC Nezam said the two were brought from the port city's EPZ area, promising them jobs, after they had been laid off by their previous employer due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The two were then confined to the flat and forced into prostitution.
A case will be filed I this connection soon, said the OC.
