Murder of poultry trader in 2008: HC upholds death penalty for 3

The High Court today upheld the death penalty of three convicts in a murder case filed in 2008 in Mymensingh.

The HC also commuted the death penalty of another convict to life imprisonment in the same case.

Abdur Razzaq Fakir (32), a poultry trader from Taltola village at Madhupur Bazar in Mymensingh's Tarakanda upazila was murdered in October 15, 2008.

Today, the HC bench of Justice Shahidul Karim and Justice Md Akhtaruzzaman gave the verdict after hearing the death reference (trial court's documents) of the case and appeals filed by convicts challenging the trial court verdict against them.

The convicts, whose death sentences have been upheld by the HC, are Mir Jahan, Emdadul Haque, and Anisur Rahman. The convict whose death sentence was commuted is Ziaul Haque.

The court of additional district and sessions judge of Mymensingh on May 4, 2015 sentenced all four convicts to death in the case.

The victim's elder brother Hazrat Ali Fakir filed a murder case with Tarakanda Police Station a day after the murder.
