In her second attempt as a councillor aspirant from reserved seat, Kalaroa's Dithi Khatun, a member of the transgender community, won in the municipality election.

Dithi got elected as the councillor from reserved seat for Ward 7, 8 and 9 of Kalaroa Municipality in the third phase of the municipality elections held yesterday.

With the symbol 'ring', Dithi secured 2,079 votes while her nearest contender Hasina Aktar, with 'hibiscus' symbol, got 1,183 votes.

Soon after being announced victorious in the election, Dithi rushed to the houses of the voters in her electoral area, exchanged greeting and expressed her gratitude to them for their support, and promised to serve them as their representative at the municipality level.

Dithi had previously contested in the municipality elections held on December 30, 2015, but failed to win by a small margin of votes.

This time, from the very beginning, Dithi was confident of making a difference and win in the election. Her election campaign was an active one.

Even amid the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic situation, she interacted with the voters from house to house to inform them of her electoral promises and called upon them for their support in the election race.

She pledged to win the hearts of the residents of her area under Kalaroa municipality by serving them through pro-people activities.
