UP member held with pistol

Police arrested a newly elected member of Piprul Union Parishad with a pistol and five bullets in Naldanga upazila of the district early yesterday.

The arrestee, Nuruzzaman Suruj Mia, is a member of Ward No 2 unit of Jubo League.

Subir Dutta, officer-in-charge of Naldanga Police Station, said Nuruzzaman stabbed Nazmul Islam, vice-president of Piprul union parishad unit of Jubo League, with sharp weapons on May 10.

Later, Nazmul filed a case with Naldanga Police Station. Since then, police had been trying to arrest Nuruzzaman.

Yesterday morning, a team led by Sub-Inspector Khairuzzaman Ripon, raided Nuruzzaman's house around 5:00am and arrested him with a pistol and five bullets.
