‘Member of gold smuggling syndicate' held with 8 gold bars in Ctg

Police arrested a man, believed to be a member of an international gold smuggling syndicate, in possession of eight gold bars and gold ornaments from Riazuddin Bazar area in Chattogram city last night.

Josef Uddin Ruman, 27, of Rangunia upazila under Chattogram district, was arrested by a team of police in front of New Railway Station on Station Road at around 9:00pm, said Officer-in-Charge Of Kotwali Police Station Mohammed Mohsin.

Eight gold bars and gold ornaments (weighting 88 bhori) were recovered from his possession, said the OC.

"Police suspect that he is a member of international smuggling racket and we are checking his previous records," said the OC.

Police are trying to arrest the other members of the gang, he said.
