Meherpur headmaster sent to jail

 A court here sent the headmaster of a Meherpur school to jail in a case for raping one of his female colleagues over two moths ago.

The accused is Shariful Islam of Amrakanon High School in Mujibnagar upazila of Meherpur.

Judge Mostafizur Rahman of the Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court in Kushtia passed the order when Shariful surrendered to the court on Saturday.

The accused went into hiding after the incident of raping the female teacher, said Sub-Inspector of Kushtia Model Police Station Ashraful, investigation officer of the case.

The woman along with the headmaster went to Kushtia to attend the government teachers' registration exams scheduled on May 13.

The duo then rented two rooms at Al Amin Hotel in Barabazar area of Kushtia.

The victim alleged that Shariful entered her room with under the pretext of giving some tips for the examination and raped her.

The accused took the victim to Kushtia General Hospital before fleeing the scene.

On May 15, the victim filed a case with Kushtia Model Police Station in this connection.

The following day, the school authorities suspended the headmaster for allegedly raping the female teacher.
