Meghna trawler capsize: Missing Ansar member’s body recovered

The body of a female Ansar member was recovered this morning, a day after a trawler capsized in Meghna river during a storm.

Coast guard officials recovered the floating body of Rita Akhter, 35, from Ismanirchar area, near the area where the trawler had capsized, our Munshigang correspondent reports quoting Sub Lt M M Atik, commander of Coast Guard’s Paglar Station.

The accident took place when 19 people, including Rita Akhter were returning to Sonargaon upazila of Narayanganj by the trawler after conducting the fourth upazila election at Char Hogla Government Primary School polling centre.

Two other victims -- Presiding Officer of the centre Borhan Uddin, 38, and Md Selim, 40, assistant town sub- inspector (ATSI) of Narayanganj Traffic Police -- are still missing.

All the passengers of the trawler, except the three made it to the bank of the river, but election materials and two firearms of law enforcers went missing in Meghna.

Police, coast guard and fire service officials were conducting search operation for the missing personnel.
