Star Online Report

Detectives claimed to have arrested a medical technologist of Kushtia's Mirpur Upazila Health Complex for providing fake coronavirus certificate.

The arrestee is Mahfuzur Rahman, our local correspondent reports.

The arrest was made during a raid conducted by Kushtia's Detective Branch (DB) of police at Mirpur Upazila Health Complex yesterday afternoon.

Detectives also seized a computer hard disk and a pen drive containing fake certificates from Mahfuzur's office room.

Kushtia Civil Surgeon HM Anwarul Islam has filed a case with Mirpur Police Station against him.

Mahfuzur was following the format of Kushtia Medical College Hospital's PCR lab certificate and used his own seal on it.

During interrogation, he admitted to his crime, said DB's Officer-in-Charge (OC) Aminul Islam.

The OC said that the arrestee was issuing such certificates not only to people in Kushtia but also many other districts. In most cases, he used to issue coronavirus negative certificates, the OC added.

He used to give the fake certificates for government and non-government employees and charged around Tk 2,000 to Tk 25,000 per certificate, the police official said.

Civil Surgeon Anwarul has informed higher authorities about the matter. The next step would be taken as per their instruction, he said.
