Marriage registrar jailed

A Bogra mobile court on Friday jailed a marriage registrar and fined four others for holding child marriage at Shajahanpur upazila of the district.

Md Shafiul Islam, upazila nirbahi officer and also the executive magistrate, handed down the verdict of 15 days' imprisonment to the marriage registrar and fined four relatives of the bride and bridegroom Tk 1 thousand each for holding marriage of a schoolgirl.

The marriage registrar is Nurul Islam Bachchu, 55, of Aria union under the upazila.
