Man to walk gallows for murder

A court here yesterday sentenced a man to death for killing his wife and two children in 2008. The convict is village doctor Alamgir Hossain Hawlader, 50, of Pathakata in Mathbaria upazila. The court also fined him Tk 50,000. According to the prosecution, Alamgir hacked her wife and two children --Ashraful Alam, 11, and daughter Jamila Akter, 3, -- dead following an altercation over family matter on June 22 in 2008. Later, a case was filed with Mathbaria Police Station in this connection. After examining witnesses and evidence, Additional District and Sessions Judge of Pirojpur SM Zillur Rahman found him guilty and pronounced the verdict.
