Man stabbed to death over land dispute in Chandpur
A man was killed over land dispute in Faridganj upazila of Chandpur district on Saturday.
The deceased is Hannan Sheikh, 55, son of Adam Ali Sheikh of Sahapur village in the upazila.
Quoting victim's family members, police said there had been a longstanding dispute between Hannan and one Abu Taher of the village over the ownership of a piece of land.
The duo locked in an altercation over the issue around 12:00noon. At one stage, Taher's two sons- Imran and Momin--swooped on Hannan and beat him mercilessly, leaving him critically injured.
Family members took him to Faridganj Upazila Health Complex where the doctors declared Hannan dead.
On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Chandpur Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy, said officer-in-charge Mostafa Kamal of Faridganj Police Station.
Away in Habiganj, at least 50 people were injured in a clash between two rival groups of villagers over capturing a water body at Kashipur village in Bahubol upazila of Habiganj district at around 6:00pm, reports our Moulvibazar correspondent.
Two policemen--Inspector Azizur Rahman and constable Mosharraff Hosain-- also received injuries when police tried to disperse the clashing groups. They were admitted to Bahubol Upazila Health Complex while the rest to Habiganj Sadar Hospital.
Quoting locals, police said the clash ensued when the supporters of Modhu Mia and Fazlu Mia tried to capture the water body in the area. They attacked each other leaving at least 50 people from both sides injured.
