Man killed over land dispute

A man was beaten to death allegedly by his rivals over a land dispute at Chhotodesh village in Kanaighat upazila of Sylhet on Friday. 

The deceased, Tota Mia, 46, son of late Tajul Ali of the village, was a tractor driver.

Quoting locals, police said there had been a longstanding rivalry between Tota Mia and his neighbour Shahidur Rahman over the ownership of a piece of land.

Both locked in an altercation over the issue around 6:00pm. At one stage, Shahidur beat Tota with a bamboo sticks, leaving him dead on the spot.

Being informed, police went to the spot, recovered the body and sent it to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
