Man killed, 3 injured over family feud

A man was killed on the spot and his father, brother and sister were critically injured in a clash over family feud between the families of two brothers at Tepa Palashi village in Palashi union under Aditmari upzaila of the district at around 11:30 pm on Monday.

The deceased was identified as Alimul Islam, 26, son of Abdur Rashid of the village.

The injured are victim's father, 55, elder brother Anowarul Islam, 33, and younger sister Arzina Begum, 19.

Rashid and Anowarul were referred to Rangpur Medical College Hospital and Arzina was admitted to Aditmari Upazila Health Complex on the night, police said, adding that they arrested two killers on the night and two others fled the spot.

The arrestees are the victim's cousin Masum Billah, 33, son of Abdul Mazid, and his mother Fazila Khatun, 44, of the village. Victim's uncle Abdul Mazid, 59, and Mazid's son Habib Islam, 25, have gone into hiding, police said.

Police said Alimul's sister Arzina Begum was married to Masum Billah's younger brother Masud Rana, 28, after a love affair four months ago. After the marriage, a family feud developed between the two families.

The two families seemed to have solved the problem at a meeting between themselves on Monday noon. Masum Billah was absent from the meeting.

Later, Arzina's father and two brothers were called out from their house at night and attacked by Masum Billah and his family members, police said.

Dr Azmol Haque, resident medical officer of Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital, said the victim died on the spot. The two injured were referred to Rangpur Medical College Hospital on the night as they sustained critical injuries on various parts of their bodies, he added.a

Akhter Hossain, officer-in-charge of Aditmari Police Station, said police are trying to arrest the two absconding killers.
