Man dies in land dispute

An elderly man was killed allegedly by his rivals over a disputed land at Palichara village in Rangpur Sadar upazila yesterday. The deceased was Shahabuddin, 85, of the village. Locals said Shahabuddin locked in an altercation with Lutfar Rahman and his brothers and nephews over the ownership of a piece of disputed land. At one stage, Lutfar hit his uncle Shahabuddin with a brick, leaving him critically injured. He later died at a hospital. Police arrested Sheuli, 32, and Masuda Akhter, 24, sisters-in-law of Lutfar, in this connection.
