Man burns wife over family feud in Tangail

A man set fire to his wife after pouring kerosene on her at Nagarpur upazila of the district yesterday.

The seriously injured woman Soma Akther, 24, was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Soma Akhter, daughter of Chan Miah of Khash Paikal village, and Ruhul Amin, son of Porosh Ali of the same village, got married three years ago.

The couple used to lock in altercation as Ruhul Amin had been married several times before, said Firoz Siddique, chairman of Doptior Union Parishad.

Quoting witnesses, he said Ruhul Amin set fire to Soma while she was asleep at around 5:00am. Burnt and panicked, Soma tried to hold Ruhul, leaving him slightly injured.

Hearing the hue and cry, neighbours rushed to the house, rescued seriously burnt Soma, and took her to a hospital. The doctors there referred her to Dhaka Medical College Hopital.

The angry people gave Ruhul Amin a beating, and sent him to Nagarpur Upazila Health Complex, Firoz said.

Ruhul Amin is undergoing treatment at the hospital under police watch, said Jahirul Islam, officer-in-charge of Nagarpur Police Station.
