Man, brother get life for killing ex-wife

A court here on Tuesday sentenced a man and his younger brother to life imprisonment for killing his former wife in 2010.

The convicts are Asadul Islam and his brother Entadul Islam, residents of Jhikargachha upazila of Jessore.

Judge Abu Monsur Md Ziaul Haque of Satkhira Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal also fined the convicts Tk 50,000 each. In default, they are to suffer three years more in jail.

According to the case statement, Asadul's wife Tarul Parvin, 16, of Kalaroa upazila in Satkhira, left her husband over family feuds and began to live with her parents in May, 2010.

On the night of May 9, Asadul and his cohorts entered Tarul's room and attacked her, leaving her critically injured. She succumbed to her injuries at a local hospital few days later.

Following a case filed by the victim's father Abu Bakkar with Kalaroa Police Station, police pressed charges against four people, including Asadul and Entadul on July 24, 2010.
