Man arrested for raping daughter in Natore
Criminal Investigation Department (CID) yesterday arrested a man on charges of raping his daughter in Natore.
Shariful Islam, a so-called "saint", raped her 16-year-old daughter repeatedly, Shaikh Nazmul Alam, deputy inspector general of CID told reporters at a press briefing at its headquarters in Dhaka.
A team of CID arrested him from Manikgangj during a drive yesterday, he added.
According to CID, Shariful's wife left him after he became the so-called "saint" two years ago. Their daughter then went to her grandmother's house.
In July this year, the accused tricked his daughter to his Baraigram home and started assaulting her physically. He kept the girl confined and did not allow anyone to meet and talk to her. He later raped the girl repeatedly.
Amid the situation, the survivor somehow contacted her grandmother, who along with victim's mother recovered her.
Shariful went into hiding after the family filed a case with Baraigram Police Station in Natore.
In primary interrogation, the accused admitted that he raped his daughter repeatedly, CID officials said.
Shariful will be handed over the Natore district police.
