Maj (retd) Sinha killing: 7 accused including Pradeep placed on 4-day remand again
A Cox's Bazar court today placed seven police personnel accused in the case filed over the killing of Major (retd) Sinha Md Rashed Khan on four day remand each.
The seven accused are: former officer-in-charge of Teknaf Police Station Pradeep Kumar Das, former inspector and in-charge of Baharchhara Police Investigation Centre Liaqat Ali, former sub-inspector Nandadulal Rakshit, assistant sub-inspector Liton Mia, and constables -- Safanur Karim, Kamal Hossain, and Abdullah Al Mamun.
The accused were produced before the Cox's Bazar Sadar Upazila Court-4 this noon upon completion of their seven-day remand.
Lawyer to Shahria Sharmin Ferdous, plaintiff of the case and sister of slain Maj (retd) Sinha, and investigation officer of the case prayed for a fresh seven-day remand for each of the accused, while counsel to the accused opposed it claiming that the accused have fallen ill.
After holding hearing of the remand prayer, Senior Judge Tamanna Farah ordered to place the accused police personnel on four-day remand each.
After the court's order, IO Khairul Islam, also senior assistant superintendent of police at Rab, said the three top accused -- Pradeep, Liaqat and Nandadulal –- will be taken into Rab custody today for further interrogation, while the others will be sent to jail and will be taken into custody for remand later.
In the first spell of remand, a lot of important information has been revealed by the accused police personnel and therefore they were produced with a prayer for remand order for second time for the sake of investigation into the case, the IO added.
Of the accused, Pradeep, Liaqat and Nandadulal have been in custody of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) for seven days during the first spell of remand following a court order to this end on August 6.
The other four accused were initially quizzed at jail gate for two days and later placed on seven-day remand by the court.
