Land disputes leave one killed, 10 injured

A man was killed and 10 others were injured over land disputes in Chuadanga and Jamalpur districts yesterday and on Monday night.

Our Kushtia correspondent reported that land dispute left a man killed at Andulbaria village in Jibonnaagar upazila of Chuadanga district on Monday night.

The deceased was identified as Abdus Salam, 38.

Police said there had been a long-standing dispute between Salam and his uncle Sahidul Islam over a piece of land.

At around 8:00pm, Salam along with his younger brother Abul Kalam went to Sahidul's house at the village and locked in an altercation over the issue.

At one stage, Shahidul's sons Mohidul and Asadul swooped on their cousins Salam and Kalam and hit them with sharp weapons.

Salam died on the spot while Kalam sustained stab injuries. Kalam is now undergoing treatment at Chuadanga Sadar Hospital.

A murder case was filed with Jibonnagar Police Station yesterday morning, accusing Sahidul and his two sons. None of them was arrested as of 5:00pm yesterday.

Police said the accused went into hiding soon after the incident.

In Jamalpur, at least 10 people were injured in an attack by their neighbour and his men over a disputed land at Charlotabar village in Madarganj upazila yesterday noon, reports our correspondent.

Of the injured, four were admitted to Sarishabari Upazila Health Complex while rest given first aid at the hospital.

Locals said there was a long-standing dispute between Mofazzal and Lal Miah over 25 decimals of land at the village.

The land was under Lal Miah's possession. As the court issued an injunction on the petition of Mofazzal on Monday, Lal Miah became angry.

He along with his men attacked Mofazzal's house at noon, leaving 10 including Mofazzal and his wife Tahmina, injured.
