Land dispute: 1 killed, 3 hurt
A man was killed and three members of his family were injured in a clash over a land dispute in Nawabganj upazila of the district yesterday, police said.
The deceased was Abdul Hye, 50, son of Nazir Uddin of Zamira village under Nawabganj upazila. His three brothers, Ashraful Islam, Abul Kalam and Saidur Rahman, were injured and are being treated at Nawabganj Upazila Health Complex.
Locals said there was a land dispute between Ashraful Islam and Abdur Razzak over one acre of land at Zamira village. A case filed over the land is pending with a court in Dinajpur.
Tension mounted as labourers and goons hired by Abdur Razzak and equipped with wooden sticks started sowing paddy saplings on the land yesterday morning. As Ashraful and his brothers tried to stop them, the goons beat them up.
Locals rescued them and took them to Nawabganj Upazila Health Complex.
The doctors referred Abdul Hye to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital but he died on the way, his family members said.
