Lalmonirhat mob killing: Burimari mosque's muezzin arrested

Police today arrested the muezzin of Burimari central mosque in connection with the death of Abu Yunus Md Shahidunnabi Jewel, who was beaten up and burnt to death by a mob in Burimari area of Patgram upazila in Lalmonirhat on October 29.

Muezzin Afiz Uddin (60) was arrested from Burimari Bazar this afternoon, said Sumon Kumar Mohanta, officer- in-charge of Patgram Police Station.

The OC said the arrest came based on information given by the arrested prime accused Abul Hossain alias Hossain Ali.

During his remand period, Abul Hossain told police that mosque muazzin Afiz was involved with the mob killing, the OC added.

With Afiz Uddin, police have so far arrested 33 people over this incident, our Lalmonirhat correspondent reports quoting the police official.
