Lalmonirhat BCL leader stabbed dead, 2 ‘friends’ detained
A Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) district-level leader was stabbed to death allegedly by his friends over past enmity in Aditmari upazila of Lalmonirhat last night.
The deceased, Mashiur Rahman Mushfique, 22, son of Mozammel Hossain hailing from Taluk Khutamara village in Aditmari upazila, was assistant general secretary of BCL Lalmonirhat district unit.
Mushfique along with two of his friends--Rahat Islam and Rubel Islam--went to Trimohini Setubazar village riding on a motorcycle last evening, reports our local correspondent quoting Shahin Akhter, sub-inspector of Aditmari Police Station.
At one stage, locals caught the duo when they were trying to flee after stabbing Musfique. Later, they handed the duo over to police, the SI said.
Critically injured Mushfique was rushed to Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital where doctors declared him dead, the official said.
Azmol Haque, residential medical officer (RMO) of the hospital said the victim was stabbed in the chest and abdomen.
Police were interrogating the two detainees, Firoz Kabir, officer-in-charge of Aditmari Police Station said adding that the motive behind the murder is yet to be known.
Endorsing the fact Superintendent of Police in Lalmonirhat, SM Rashidul Haque, said exemplary action will be taken against the killers.
