Killing of minor boy sparks protest in Dinajpur

People of Ghoraghat upazila of the district continued their protest against the killing of 4-year-old Parash Saha for the third day yesterday.

Traders of all markets in the upazila yesterday observed a half-day shutdown, protesting the killing.

On Friday, a large number of people gathered on the Shaheed Minar premises at the upazila headquarters and staged a demonstration there, demanding capital punishment of the culprits who killed Parash after abduction.

Speakers at the rally also demanded removal of the officer-in-charge of Ghoraghat Police Station for his 'failure' in rescuing the boy.

Speakers at the rally said the parents of the boy immediately informed the police about the abduction of Parash, but Md Nuruzamman Chowdhury, the officer-in-charge, did not deal seriously with the incident.

At the rally, they announced that they would form a human chain tomorrow (Monday) to press the demand for capital punishment of the killers. After the rally, the agitating people brought out a mourning procession.

Kalyan Chakraborty, teacher of Ghoraghat Pilot High School, Rabiul Islam, president of the local unit of Jubo League, local ruling party leader Md Shafi addressed the rally.

Parash Chandra Saha, son of Keshab Chandra Saha of Kadimnagar village under the upazila, was abducted on Wednesday afternoon. The abductors demanded Tk 5 lakh as ransom, said police.

Locals found the body of Porosh at a mango orchard at the village on Thursday morning.

Keshab Saha, father of Parash, filed a murder case, accusing seven people, the same day. Police arrested the accused on Friday night. Five of the accused were taken on seven days' remand yesterday. They are Zillur Rahman, 20, his mother Shefali Begum, 48, Md Mamun, 21, Md Ibrahim, 19, and Nur Banu, 45.
