‘Killing friend for a motorbike’: 4 get life term, 2 get 5 years’ jail

A court today sentenced four youths to life term imprisonment and two others to five years for killing a friend while snatching a motorcycle in Bhandaria of Pirojpur in 2014.

Pirojpur District and Sessions Judge Md Mohiduzzaman passed the order in presence of three of the convicts this afternoon.

The court also fined each of the life term convicts Tk 10,000 and Tk 5,000 for other two.

The life term convicts are Sohel Rana, 26, Milon Gharamee, 26, Al Amin Hawladar, 28, and Masum Billah, 38. Apart from Sohel Rana, three others have been on the run since the incident.

Two other convicts are Hiru Hawladar, 39, and Liton Choukidar, 30.

According to the case statement, Sohel along with his three friends -- Milon, Al Amin, and Masum -- strangled their friend Shakil Sikdar, 20, and left his body in a paddy field at Singkhali village on March 9 in 2014 as per their previous plan to snatch Shakil's motorcycle.

Then, the convicts took the motorcycle and kept it at the house of Liton. Later, the motorcycle was hidden at the house of Liton's cousin Hiru.

On the following day, police recovered Shakil's body from the paddy field. On the same day, Shakil's mother Alo Begum filed a murder case with Bhandaria Police Station
