JMB behind bomb, gun attacks in Dinajpur

Members of outlawed Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) were behind the attacks in different places of Dinajpur in the last one month.

Humayun Kabir, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, Rangpur Range, said this at a press briefing at Dinajpur Sadar Police Station yesterday afternoon.

"We have enough information that JMB men carried out the attacks in Dinajpur and elsewhere in the northern region to destabilise the country," he said.

The DIG said the attacks were planned to damage the image of Bangladesh in the international community.

He also hinted that extremists from outside Bangladesh may be patronising the banned organisation. "We have so far arrested many people in connection with the incidents. All are Bangladeshi citizens," he said, adding that the Thursday night's robbery bid in Chirirbandar upazila of was also carried out by JMB members.

Earlier on the day, the DIG visited Kantaji and Iskcon temples.

 Police arrested four people from Sadar and Palashbari upazilas of Gaibandha yesterday morning for their suspected involvement in bomb and gun attacks on the premises of Kantaji temple and at Eskon temple in Kahalor upazila of Dinajpur district.

The arrestees are Sumon, Iqbal Hossain, Khoka Miah and Forhad Hossain.
