Jamaat men snatch arson case accused from cop

Jamaat-Shibir men allegedly snatched an arrestee from law enforcers after injuring a police official in Chirirbandar upazila of the district yesterday.

The injured is Abdur Rahman, assistant sub-inspector of Chirirbandar Police Station.

The plainclothes police official went to Ranipur village around 2:00pm and arrested Md Asadullah, former president of the upazila unit of Shibir, accused in an arson case.

All on a sudden, at least 15 Jamaat-Shibir men swooped on ASI Rahman and snatched Asadullah, said police sources.

On information, a police team rushed to the spot, rescued Rahman and sent him to a hospital.

Contacted, Md Anisur Rahman, officer-in-charge of the PS, said the ASI arrested Asadullah on the way to his home but the accused manage to flee after a scuffle.

However, when asked if Jamaat-Shibir men were involved in snatching the arrestee, the OC declined to make any comment.
