‘Jamaat man’ killed in Ctg ‘gunfight’ with cops

An alleged activist of Jamaat-e-Islami was killed in what police said to be a gunfight in Satkania upazila of Chittagong this morning.

The deceased Abul Boshor alias Vodaiya, 45, hailing from Kanchana union in the upazila, was a Jamaat cadre, police claimed.

Tipped-off; a police team went to recover stashed arms from Eochia union of Satkania around 6:15am, our staff correspondent from Chittagong reports quoting Farid Uddin Khandkar, officer-in-charge (OC) of Satkania Police Station.

Later, when they reached Chhankhola area of the union, a group of miscreants opened fire on police forcing the law-enforcers to retaliate with gunfire, the police official said.

At one stage, Abdul was caught in the line of fire leaving him dead on the spot, while his cohorts managed to flee, the OC added.

Eight police personnel were also hurt in the standoff, who received primary treatments, the official claimed.

Police recovered two pipe guns, a light gun (LG) from the spot.

The deceased stood accused in more than 25 cases including murder and arms.

He was a 'Jamaat cadre' who actively took part in sabotage including vandalism and arson attacks in the upazila after the verdict of war criminal Delwar Hossain Sayedee on February 28, 2013, the OC added.
