Import-export resumes thru’ Benapole port after a month

Star Online Report

Import and export between Bangladesh and India through Benapole land port resumed today after its closure for a month following the Covid-19 outbreak.

A total of 10 trucks carrying 186 metric tonnes of jute seeds entered Bangladesh from India through the land port, while many perishable goods are still waiting to enter from the Indian side, our local correspondent reports quoting Akram Hossain, assistant commissioner of Benapole Customs House.

The decision was taken by the port authorities of both the neighbouring countries at an emergency meeting held at Benapole no man's land on Wednesday afternoon, Akram Hossain said.

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members sprayed disinfectants on the trucks entering the country as part of measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

Earlier on April 1, the port authorities of both the countries halted import and export activities through the ports following the outbreak of Covid-19.
