Illegal fishing nets seized, two fined

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) seized illegal fishing nets from Parerhat Bazar under Zianagar upazila of the district on Sunday.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of Rab-8 of Barisal raided the bazaar at around 3:00pm and  found illegal fishing nets in two shops.

They seized a large quantity of illegal fishing nets from the shops and arrested shop owners Narottom Kundu and Pintu Bhoumik on charge of selling illegal fishing nets. They later burned the nets at the bazar.

The elite force also sealed a fishing net shop of one Uttam Bol as he was not present during the raid.

In the evening, Narottam and Pintu were produced before a mobile court led by Zianagar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mridha Mujahidul Islam, who  fined them Tk 5,000 each.
