Husband kills wife over tardiness in cooking
A man was arrested and produced before a Bogura court yesterday for killing his wife the day before in Shahjahanpur upazila.
The arrestee, Shahin Alam alias Sumon, 38, married Nurjahan Begum, 43, only in May this year.
He is a ward boy at Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital (SZMCH) in Bogura and son of Dawlat Jahan from Kadimpara village in Bogura Sadar upazila.
Police arrested Shahin early yesterday in Thanamor area of Bogura town.
During primary interrogation, Shahin admitted to have killed his wife by slitting her throat with a knife around 5:00pm on Tuesday at his rented house in Shakpalar Mor area of Shahjahanpur upazila, said Sanatan Chakraborty, Sadar Circle additional superintendent of police (ASP).
Shahin also said that before killing his wife, Nurjahan Begum, 43, he turned her unconscious by slipping sleeping pills in a drink and later injected her with sedatives several times.
He said he often got into squabbles with Nurjahan for failing to prepare food on time and on Tuesday morning, she made him aggravated again by not giving him breakfast, ASP Sanatan quoted him as saying.
Nurjahan’s mother Achhuba Bewa filed a case yesterday with Shahjahanpur Police Station, accusing Shahin of murdering her daughter.
The dead body of Nurjahan was sent to SZMC morgue for autopsy, said the police official.
