Housewife strangled, two others commit 'suicide'
A housewife was strangled allegedly by her husband at Uttarkantanagar Banshhati village under Dhunat upazila of the district early yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Anjuara Khatun, 30, wife of Dulal Pramanik of the village.
Locals said Dulal, son of Roich Uddin, married Anjuara, daughter of late Sirajul Islam of Rangamati village in the upazila, 15 years ago.
He married another woman named China Khatun, 22, daughter of Esha Mondol of Eswarghat village in the same upazila three months ago.
Family feud started the day Dulal married China without consent of Anjuara. She locked in an altercation with Dulal over the issue at around 12:30am. At one stage, he beat up Anjuara and strangled her.
Neighbours found her body lying on the floor in the morning and informed the police, who recovered the body and sent it to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital (SZMCH) morgue for autopsy.
Dulal, his second wife China and other members of the family fled the scene soon after the incident.
Contacted, Mizanur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Dhunat Police Station, said no case was lodged in connection with the murder as of 4:00pm yesterday.
Away in Benapole, two housewives allegedly committed suicide in Sharsha and Jhikargachha upazilas of Jessore district early yesterday, reports our correspondent.
The deceased were identified as Ayra Khatun, 19, wife of Abdur Razzak of Chinatola village in Sharsha upazila, and Sima Khatun, 20, wife of Shahjahan Ali of Monirampur village in Jhikargachha upazila.
Police and family members said Ayra Khatun took poison at their residence after her husband refused to give her money for Shopping. She was taken to Jessore Medical College Hospital where she died early yesterday.
Sima Khatun committed suicide by taking poison over a family feud on Tuesday night. She was taken to the same hospital where she died soon after admission.
